Why Kids Should Attend a Summer Camp
Finally - summer break! But what are you going to do all summer? For 4-8th graders, a LuHi Youth Summer Camp might just be calling your name!
BY Amy Kopecky
Ah, summer vacation. That long-awaited, huge sigh of relief after you’ve reached the finish line of a busy school year. Well, at least it’s a sigh of relief for some people. For others, it’s a sigh of worry at the thought of filling the days ahead with meaningful activities for kids.
Did you know Lutheran High offers Lutheran Youth Summer Camps for elementary and middle school aged kids? This year we’re offering sixteen different options! They’re your answer to the “I’m bored” complaints. Read on to learn about the benefits of sending your kid(s) to our one-of-a-kind summer program.
Nurture Talent, Skills and Confidence
The top goal of our summer camps is to help your son or daughter explore their interests and natural talents, as well as to give them new skills to develop as they pursue their passions. Our dedicated teachers and coaches create a unique, low-pressure environment so kids can grow in confidence and abilities.
This year our summer program includes art, music, computer programming, and a variety of sports camps. There’s something for everyone, and summer is a great time to try something new. Encourage your kids to stretch themselves in their skills, knowledge, and friendships. Speaking of friendships…
Grow Friendships
Summer camp is an ideal opportunity to forge new connections! The months outside of school can be a lonely time for kids since they don’t see their friends on a regular basis. But LuHi summer camp is a meet-up for old friends and a pathway to new ones. It’s often easier to connect with peers over a shared interest in this relaxed, fun environment. Plus, there’s a chance they might attend Lutheran High with their new friends together someday!
Meet Positive Role Models
Our coaches and teachers are all talented experts in their fields who are dedicated to developing lifelong skills in our youth. Whether they’re on the field or in a classroom, they put their words into action and demonstrate what Christ-like character looks like. This means that in addition to teaching the unique skills each individual camp requires, they are also passionate about teaching the importance of character, teamwork, and perseverance.
In our camps, we have a small coach to athlete ratio which means your child will be given the focus and attention they need. In today’s world, positive adult role models can be hard to come by; but not when you send your kids to a summer camp at LuHi.
Healthy Exercise And Engagement
Let’s talk screen time. We all know how tempting it is to allow endless amounts of video games and binge-watching on the couch when school lets out. But what if summer vacation could be a time of growth instead of atrophy? The good news is that it can!
Camp is an opportunity to play. It’s an opportunity for kids to create, move, and explore all that their bodies and minds are capable of accomplishing. Instead of allowing them to backpedal from all the hard work they accomplished in the school year, summer camp gets them excited about being active physically and intellectually with kids their age. Plus, it’s fun!
This year our summer camps include the following options:
- Computer Programming
- Ceramics
- Mixed Media
- Keyboards and Composers
- Guitar
- Theatre
- Baseball
- Boys basketball
- Girls basketball
- Cheer
- Football
- Golf (co-ed)
- Lacrosse (co-ed)
- Girls soccer
- Girls volleyball
- Softball
