Lutheran High School Reopening 2020-2021

Our commitment to families

"Why does Lutheran High School exist?" It exists to serve its community so God can transform lives.

That is accomplished by gathering talented people who love high school kids and their families...and then Christian education is delivered at the highest level. Lutheran High School fully intends to live this vision and mission.

Lutheran High School will teach students without fear! Its teachers are ready, flexible, and dedicated to helping students learn. It’s their calling, and they will creatively and relentlessly pursue that end goal.

Students are wanted on campus and in classrooms. Lutheran High School will be ready to start on time with in-person education unless mandated otherwise or another start time makes more sense. An option for families that do not want to be on-campus will be provided.

Assumptions for the 2020-2021 school year

  • Lutheran High School has families that want full-time on-campus education.
  • Lutheran High School also has families that want an alternative to on-campus instruction for a short time or longer.
  • Changing state government mandates and changing local health department guidance means flexibility and creativity will be needed - specifically with class scheduling.
  • Risk mitigation for students and staff is a priority.
  • No plan for 2020-2021 will satisfy every Lutheran High School family.
  • Lutheran High School families will rise to the challenge of modeling what a Christian community can look like even during times of strong difference of opinions.

Where things stand in Colorado

As of July 23, it appears that a private school's reopening plan is at their discretion unless dictated by state-wide mandates. The Colorado Department of Health and Environment (CDPHE) has issued its statewide guidance for what a school will need to do procedurally with any reported case.  Tri-County Health has chosen to implement the CDPHE guidelines.

Educational scenarios

LionFlex

Lutheran High School is switching to a straight 9-period bell schedule for 2020-2021.  The basic bell schedule will be named LionFlex and will look like this:

(M-W-F):
Period 1:  7:30-8:12 (42 minutes)
Period 2:  8:17-8:59 (42)
Chapel:  9:04-9:31 (27)
Period 3:  9:36-10:18 (42)
Period 4:  10:23-11:05 (42)
Period 5:  11:10-11:52 (42)
Period 6:  11:57-12:39 (42)
Period 7:  12:44-1:26 (42)
Period 8:  1:31-2:13 (42)
Period 9:  2:18-3:00 (42)

(T-TH):
Academic Lab: 7:30-7:55 a.m.
Period 1:  8:00-8:44 (44 minutes)
Period 2:  8:49-9:31 (42)
Period 3:  9:36-10:18 (42)
Period 4:  10:23-11:05 (42)
Period 5:  11:10-11:52 (42)
Period 6:  11:57-12:39 (42)
Period 7: 12:44-1:26 (42)
Period 8:  1:31-2:13 (42)
Period 9:  2:18-3:00 (42)

Please note:  Lutheran High School is planning for its students to be on-campus every day attending class according to this schedule.  If the state mandates a hybrid approach, or it is deemed prudent, this schedule is flexible enough to have a portion of students on campus and a portion home "zooming into" their classes.

Zoom-In Option for LionFlex

A "Zoom-In Option" will exist for families to have their student(s) attend their classes remotely.

Families who are not comfortable being on campus can have students choose to "Zoom-In" to the classes that are offered each day on campus. TV screens and cameras are currently being mounted in every classroom to allow for this possibility. Staff will be well-prepared to work with students choosing this option. No tuition discount will be given for choosing the Zoom-in option. More details regarding attendance and expectations for students choosing to Zoom-in will be posted at a later date.

LionShare

If the state were to mandate that Lutheran High School move to a fully online scenario, LionShare will be used.  This schedule is similar to what was used last spring, with classes meeting via Zoom every third day, 9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with no school on Monday.

X days: Periods 1, 4, 7
Y days: Periods 2, 5, 8
Z days: Periods 3, 6, 9

LionShare is not available individually to students if classes are meeting on campus.  It is only available if the entire student body is mandated to do school from home.

Student Class Schedules

Schedules will be posted in RenWeb/FACTS during the day on Monday, August 10.

After schedules are posted, students can request a change by sending an email request at any time to schedules@lhsparker.org.

In-person schedule changes can be made on Tuesday, August 11 and Wednesday, August 12 - 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. outside the school building (look for the tents).

In-person schedule changes can also be made while students are on campus during their scheduled times on Thursday, August 13 and Friday, August 14 (look for the tents).

A word of encouragement!

Our theme verse for the 2020-2021 is Isaiah 26:3-4:

You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.

No matter what, students at Lutheran High School will be reminded daily of the peace of the Lord and His hand in all that we do.  We plan for 2020-2021 to be an amazing school year.
