Head Track Coach Jermaine Stafford | Email from Jan 26, 2026

Lutheran Athletics is excited to announce Jermaine Stafford as the new Head Coach of the Track & Field program! Coach Stafford has been an integral part of our track community and we anticipate great success and spiritual growth for our student-athletes under his leadership.

Coach Stafford brings an unparalleled background in Track & Field, having been a team USA-class sprinter and a Michigan State University student-athlete in both Track & Football. His remarkable athletic career includes being a member of the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games (400m Relay Alternate), and he was recognized as both the Gatorade National Athlete of the Year and Runner's World Magazine Athlete of the Year. Coach Stafford holds numerous state and national championships, and notably, was the youngest U.S. Sprinter to compete internationally at age 15 from the state of New York.

Beyond his competitive achievements, Coach Stafford has dedicated his career to the holistic development of young athletes. As Director of Performance Facility & Growth at the UPSWING Foundation, he provides performance training, mentorship, and leadership with an emphasis on discipline, character, and faith-based values. His passion for track and field and athlete development has been a consistent driving force throughout his career. Coach Stafford is no stranger to Lutheran High School, having previously served as Lead Sprint Coach from 2013–2017 before returning in 2024.

Now, as Head Coach, Coach Stafford is eager to build on LuHi's legacy. He shared:

"It is an immense privilege to step into this role at Lutheran High School, a place where faith and excellence intertwine. My passion is to help our student-athletes unlock their full potential, not just on the track, but in every aspect of their lives. We will build a program founded on Christ-centered values, fostering discipline, resilience, and a growth mindset, while striving for competitive excellence with joy and purpose." - 1 Corinthians 9:24

Please join us in extending a warm welcome to Coach Stafford. We ask for your prayers and support as he leads our Track & Field program into an exciting new era, and for God’s blessings on him and his family (Madysen 15, Taelor 13, Masai 9 & Fiancé Tess).
