Homecoming Dance Information for Freshmen | Email from Sept 26. 2025

Lutheran High School Family,

We wanted to share several items that will hopefully provide some peace of mind for the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, October 4 from 8:00-11:00 PM. All other details will be shared by the Student Council.

Attendance at Homecoming Dance - It is certainly up to individual students if they choose to attend our Homecoming Dance. We do want students to know we would love to have them present as it’s a great culture-building event on campus. For those who purchase a ticket for the dance, attendance is very important to us. We work hard to ensure that all students who are on the list are present and accounted for or we have heard from a parent if there is an unexpected illness, family commitment, or change in plans.

Dress Code Reminder - This summer, a link to our Student-Parent Handbook’s Dress and Appearance Code was shared with LuHi students and parents. Please visit Student-Parent Handbook to read our Dance Dress Code (page 26) for a reminder of appropriate attire for dances. The Homecoming Dance is considered a semi-formal event. Generally speaking, we have been so blessed with great judgment at dances and have not seen all of the items listed in the handbook.

If young women or their families have any gender-specific questions related to this policy, please be in communication with Mrs. Darby Ullyatt (darby.ullyatt@lhsparker.org). If young men and their families have any gender-specific questions, please be in communication with our Assistant Principal, Mr. Jonathan Schlecht (jonathan.schlecht@lhsparker.org) or our Dean of Students, Mr. Britt Gusmus (britt.gusmus@lhsparker.org).

Dates Not Required; Come with LuHi Friends - Please know that students are not required to have dates to attend Lutheran High School dances. We are grateful for a history of dances at school where many, many students come with their LuHi friends. To keep our dances uniquely LuHi, we do not allow students to bring friends from other schools. Even with some students bringing dates from other schools, we want our total dance numbers to be primarily Lutheran High School students. Placing the emphasis on dances as LuHi events has served us well.

For freshmen, it is very customary for groups of students to go to eat ahead of time, get rides from parents, and then get dropped off at Lutheran High School. Our encouragement is always to include as many LuHi classmates as possible, avoid excluding anyone, make reservations at a restaurant, and make it a fun evening without the pressure of feeling the need to have a date.

Shoes - Please note that our dance is on our gym floor, but most importantly, some shoes are not comfortable to dance in for young women. It is not unusual for young women to wear dressy shoes to go out to eat and then change into more comfortable shoes for the dance. It is also growing in popularity to simply wear comfortable shoes from the start of the evening; it’s the norm and fully acceptable! Additionally, we would be grateful if young women would help preserve the gym floor and not wear high heels in the gym.

Coat Check at the Dance - There is a coat check in the front entrance that is free and provides paper bags (labeled by students with their name) in which students can place their dress shoes (if changing into more comfortable shoes upon arrival), phones, purses, etc. The coat check is supervised by an adult all night and belongings are given back to students at the end of the night when they are leaving. It’s worth taking advantage of this feature.

We’re looking forward to a fun Homecoming Week!

Serving Him,

David Ness & Darby Ullyatt
