Locker Cleaning | Email from May 12, 2026
Locker Cleaning - By the end of finals, we need lockers to be cleaned (please). This includes the following:
- Emptying contents
- Removing stickers
- Cleaning off any marks or writing
- Wiping out the crunchy cookie base of a Twix, the fragments from your favorite Miss Vickie’s chips, the sugary remnants of watermelon Sour Patch Kids, or the caramelized puddle from a Dr. Pepper.*
- Digging through layers of personal belongings (clothing, coffee mugs, binders, etc.)
- Properly disposing of “that one lunch” with a tuna fish, egg, horseradish, and sauerkraut sandwich you brought, put in your locker, and then decided to buy food at school instead.
*Based on the top-selling items from the School Store according to Mrs. Van Heukelem.
Fines for Unclean Lockers - After the dates listed below (according to grade level), we will be running an initial check of lockers to determine if any fines ($50) need to be assessed. Since we have great confidence that students will take the personal responsibility of cleaning out their lockers, we can use language about fines without expecting that to be a reality. :)
You are responsible for the locker you were originally issued.
Senior Locker Cleaning - Seniors must have lockers emptied by Friday, May 15. Lockers must be ready to be checked (please) by the end of the day on Friday. Our recommendation is to clean them early this week, even if you continue to use them during finals.
Underclassmen Locker Cleaning - Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors must have lockers emptied (please) by the end of finals on Wednesday, May 20. Our recommendation is to clean them this week, even if you continue to use them during finals.
How to Avoid a Fine - In order for students to avoid incurring a fine, here are some recommended steps:
- Clean out your lockers. :) Lockers were cleaned thoroughly last summer, so we have high expectations. Thank you for doing this and leaving your locker in as good of shape as you found it!
- Borrow a cleaning supply. Basic cleaning supplies (like spray bottles or paper towels) will be available in the Flex Room beginning this Wednesday.
- Ask a Dean. Our Deans’ Team has graciously agreed to check lockers if it helps provide peace of mind. Asking Mr. Gusmus or Mr. Schlecht, “Does this look good? Do you see anything I’m missing?” will provide instant feedback one way or the other.
Locker Item Donations - In addition to cleaning supplies in the Flex Room, there will be tables available for students wishing to donate 1) school supplies in good condition, and 2) clothing items from their lockers. Please use the garbage, as necessary, for items that aren’t in good enough shape to donate. Donating is entirely up to you, but we want to provide a mechanism for practicing good stewardship and blessing others in need.
Thank You! - Thanks for being gracious and understanding around the desire to have this done well! This is a great opportunity to practice personal responsibility! Thanks for caring and doing your best!
