Find information on Senior Meetings, Days off for College Visits, NCAA or NAIA and more
Hello Seniors!
(parents also received a copy of this email)
Hope all is well! There have been some questions during the week that warranted a quick email to note the concerns.
1. 15-20 Minutes Daily: work on your College Applications on the college website or Common App (CA main section or CA "My Colleges" section)
-Working 15-20 minutes daily (seriously, set a timer) will allow you plenty of time to finish application items! You will most likely finish by Oct 1.
-Plus it's not overwhelming! Working during the timer, then move on to other things.
2. Senior Meetings for Post HS Planning: sign up for your meeting w/ Mr. Tewes or Ms Noffze; use the link sent in the email from one of us
-You received an email reminder on Saturday if you have not yet signed up
3. Days off from School = Visit Colleges: Seniors do not have school on the following days this semester (see list below), so it's a good time to schedule College Campus Visits!
-Schedule college visits by going to the college website Admission page (or search it for a quicker find)
-NO School: Sept 22, Oct 8-12, Oct 16, Oct 23
-November 7 & 21 are half days on a Friday, which would be another great day to visit colleges
4. NCAA or NAIA: Future College Athletes must ADD these to their college list in Naviance "College's I'm Applying To" (either one or both)
-Be sure you have an account created:
https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/register/CERTIFICATION?accountSubType=FULL
Lutheran High School, CEEB code 060417
-Then request transcripts in your Naviance account
-NCAA is Division 1, 2, & 3 (D3 can only offer academic scholarship so a high GPA is necessary)
-NAIA is like Division 3, but they can offer both academic and sport scholarship $$
5. ACT/SAT: Must complete taking these exams by December 2025!
-ACT: Oct 18 & Dec 13
-SAT: Oct 4, Nov 8, Dec 6
-Do Not take ACT/SAT after December unless the Admission rep specifically directs you to do so for a score increase which can be a scholarship increase.
6. Common App or not?
-If a college is not found in Common App, they do not use that service.
-Common App has 2 sections: the main section called "My Common Application" and the "My Colleges" sections
-My Colleges section is individual questions from the college to answer (about 15-20 minutes for each college)
-When both My Common App and My College sections are completed, hit the "Review & Submit" option to submit you application
-Colleges that don't use CA have an "Apply" button to get started on their website (apply on their website)
-GCU application takes about 15-20 minutes (gcu.edu...yellow "apply" button)
-Junior College & Community College Apps take about 15-20 minutes for each one
7. Brit Lit class has finished the college essay assignment!
-Copy and paste your corrected college essay from your google doc into your college application
-Common App: goes into the "Writing" section
-Apps on college websites: may or may not require a college essay
God's blessings as you continue your Senior year journey!
Cheering you onward and upward!
