What does it look like for a student to put their faith into action? For many LuHi students, it starts with a simple yes to a trip that isn't about them.
That's the heart of LuHi Missions. Bill Garner leads both LuHi Service and Missions, and he defines the program's purpose this way: "to give students a chance to put their faith into action. That Jesus would make a difference in us as we strive to make a difference in the world. And [with the growth], we continue to stand in awe of God's power, as we have a front row seat to watch Him show up and work all things to work out."
Four years ago, Missions sent out one group. The next year, it sent seven. For the 2026-2027 school year and the following summer, 19 trips are planned.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others." - Philippians 2:3-4

Students will serve the community through multiple activities, including a VBS camp for children, food distribution, home visits, and light construction projects.
This is an all-girls trip, given the nature of the ministry site, which serves girls ages 12-17. The team will serve at a girls' shelter called RENACER (Rebirth). The home brings hope to girls in Costa Rica who are recovering from life on the streets, including drugs, sexual exploitation, and brokenness. These young women voluntarily commit to an intense 18-month rehabilitation program, through which the team shares the love of Christ through Bible studies, discipleship, and other activities.
Students will serve a poor and oppressed community of people who recycle through the trash to earn money. The team will work alongside a ministry with several programs, including an after-school program for children that supports education as a way to break the generational bonds of poverty.
The team's primary focus will be to love the staff and students like Jesus as they work and play side by side with a deaf ministry partner.
The team will serve alongside a local church in Slatina for the first weekend, then travel to Transylvania to serve at a Youth for Christ summer camp for the week, working alongside camp staff and investing in local students. On the final weekend, they will take a day trip through the Romanian mountains to see historic castles before returning to Bucharest to fly home.
Students will be part of what God is doing and transforming in Maine. They will partner with area churches to serve and reach broken communities in need of love, hope, and restoration.
This is an evangelistic park ministry working with children in low-income neighborhoods. Students should like kids, have energy for a park ministry, enjoy talking about their faith, and be OK with uncomfortable situations.
The team will visit Modjo, Ethiopia, for a transformative experience serving children of all ages and their families at a community care point through VBS, sports camp activities, and possibly workshops with Ethiopian high school students. They will work with Children's HopeChest, whose goals include transforming the lives of children and their communities through sustainability, independence, and long-term self-sufficiency.
This trip aims to bring quality and affordable education, healthcare, and women's empowerment centers to transform communities. This highly relational mission trip redefines what traditional service looks like by learning how to give a hand up and not a handout.
