New Resource for Students: an On-Campus Mental Health Counselor
3:57

Lutheran High School is excited to introduce a familiar face in a new role. Miro Marriott, a 2016 LuHi grad, has been hired as our mental health counselor. This addition to our staff aligns with our core value to ensure a highly relational culture.

Before stepping into this role, Miro was part of our Admissions Team since 2019. She is very familiar with LuHi’s mission, vision and culture. Simultaneously working in Admissions, she earned her Master's degree in counseling, specializing in Clinical Mental Health from Colorado Christian University, a program accredited by CACREP.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), Miro brings a wealth of knowledge and a commitment to excellence to her new role. Her counseling approach, like any adult advice given to students at LuHi, is rooted in a Biblical worldview. Her undergraduate studies in Psychology from Liberty University provide her with a strong foundation, and her ongoing pursuit of licensure ensures that she adheres to the highest standards of professional practice. As she completes her hours toward licensure, she serves under the guidance of a fully certified counselor off-campus.

Miro shares, “I am excited to serve the students of Lutheran High School. There is a lot of development that takes place in the four years of the student's journey and I look forward to being able to walk alongside some of them. My goal is to bring awareness to mental health and recognize that seeking help is a courageous act. I firmly believe that high schoolers have so much to offer the world right now. I hope to bring guidance, and encouragement to any student that comes through my door.”

Miro is on campus to offer support and guidance to students facing various challenges. Whether it's academic stress, interpersonal conflicts, or personal struggles, students can schedule appointments with Miro just like they would with any other faculty or staff member. Her role is to provide short-term on-site care, serving as a starting point for further care if needed. It is designed to provide a starting point for further care (if needed), helping LuHi with immediate emergencies and/or brief therapy. Any students with circumstances that require ongoing care will be resourced out in conjunction with their families to counselors in the area. This approach ensures that LuHi continues to provide avenues for students seeking help while also involving parents and guardians in that support.

One of Miro’s goals is to ensure every student knows they are loved and have a support system here - even when it’s hard to see it that way or their feelings tell them something different. And more than just being seen here on campus, they are seen by their Creator and Savior.

She shares, “Something I want every student to hear from me is that they are seen, they are worth listening to, and they are not alone. Too many teenagers can walk around feeling unseen by people, but I desire to have them know that I see them for who they are and that they are a child of the one true King. I want each student to know that they are worth listening to no matter what they are coming to me for and no matter how many times they come to see me. To be able to let a student know that they are not alone in their experience is vastly important. Everyone needs to know that they are not alone in what they face.”

Miro brings expertise and a love of LuHi students to her new role. Adding a mental health counselor as a resource for our students supports our core value of providing a highly relational environment. Parents can be encouraged that Miro—and any adult their student interacts with during the school day—will encourage and counsel their students from a Biblical worldview rooted in Scripture.
