In this month’s teacher spotlight we are privileged to get to know Mr. Monte, the new Algebra I and Statistics teacher. This is his first year at LuHi and his eighth year of teaching. Read on to discover what inspired him to come to LuHi, his advice for pursuing a career using math, and what his favorite superpower is!
It is pretty self-evident what a central theme the arts are to our lives when we consider the very first words of the Bible. Genesis 1:1 says “In the beginning, God created heaven and the earth.” Our ultimate creator, God gave life and representation to every creature on earth. He is a magnificent artist and because we live in His image, we are all creators as well. At Lutheran High School, we have developed a high-quality arts program to help students flourish while bringing glory to God through their talents.
With a love for performance from the earliest years, Jillian Lietzau’s passion for theatre has brought her to be the Head of the Theatre Department here at Lutheran High School. She recalls her first role over as a dancing flower in Alice in Wonderland, all the way back in first grade. That was alongside being in an accelerated reading class that performed plays for younger students, youth choir, and high school theatre (in the LuHi Denver campus). But it took until her college years until she realized God’s calling for theatre, and how He’d guided her along that path for much of her life.
Books spark lively conversations in Mrs. Robbins’ room, and this is largely due to an enlightening confession from the Freshman English teacher herself: “I was a reluctant reader in high school, like many of my students, which is why I love my job. I, too, can impact students and hopefully help them develop a love for literature that was not there before.”
Now I know a lot of you are scared with starting the new school year. For some of you, it’s your freshman year and you’re gonna be here for the next four years. You know, I remember my first day in this town...
We are blessed to have a handful of new faces joining our LuHi Staff this fall! As our student body continues to grow, we keep our class sizes small by hiring new teachers. This coming school year, we are excited to serve about 680 students! Let’s meet the new teachers and faculty members!
Interests and passions drive all of us toward hobbies, volunteerism and in many cases, careers. That’s why all of us here at LuHi take great care to nurture the passions of our students.
What have you been up to since you graduated from Denver Lutheran High?
Since graduating from Lutheran high school my life has been one big adventure. I attended the University of Wyoming, where I played as a middle blocker on the volleyball team all four years. These were some of the most amazing memories of my life, and I will cherish them forever.
By now, you’ve seen the signs, read the emails, or heard someone talking about Beauty and the Beast. This year's LuHi Musical is one of the most iconic Disney movies of all time. It has become a hit on the Broadway stage as well. So how does Lutheran High plan to bring this “tale as old as time” to the stage?
So frequently in life, we are determined by our performances. We think getting into heaven looks like what Jack and Patrik had to go through to get into worship class. Unfortunately, some people think this is what it’s going to look like in heaven: a process of weighing our deeds and trying to live up to expectations.
